Space Maintainers
Have you been trying to find a dentistry practice that focuses on the care of children? Children’s mouths go through many developmental stages. Your child must be seen by a dentist who understands these different developmental stages.
Our top-notch dental practice is fully dedicated to the dental care of children. If your child needs space maintainers, they will fit these dental appliances at our dental practice. If you would like an appointment to see our dentists, please contact us at our dental practice, Bangor Children’s Dentistry.
At our dental practice, we are pleased to have expert, highly-trained pediatric dentists on staff. Our pediatric dentists are Dr. Marcus Wilkerson, Dr. Amy Alexcovich, and Dr. Terrin Porter. At our pediatric dental practice, our dentists provide gentle, friendly care for the dental needs of infants, children, and adolescents. One of the many dental services we offer is giving space maintainers for children.
A child’s baby teeth are essential because they act as placeholders for the permanent teeth. This is why baby teeth must stay healthy and stay in the child’s mouth for as long as possible. Without these placeholders, permanent teeth may end up coming in in the wrong place or coming in crooked or at an angle.
If a baby tooth falls out or is not present, our dentist may recommend using a space maintainer for the child to take the place of the baby (primary) tooth. This will help ensure that the permanent tooth comes in in the proper position and that orthodontic work will not be needed for this particular matter in the future.
When one of our patient’s baby teeth is lost, absent, or needs to be extracted, our dentist will fabricate a space maintainer to be used by your child. This space maintainer will be used to preserve the space for the permanent tooth. At our practice, we offered two different types of space maintainers.
One type of space maintainer is called a fixed space maintainer. It is cemented into the child’s mouth and will stay there until the permanent tooth erupts. The second type of space maintainer is called a removable space maintainer. It can be removed from the mouth and is worn until the permanent tooth comes in as well.
At our dental practice, we also provide many other services for our young patients, including exams, teeth cleanings, tooth-colored fillings, fluoride treatments, dental sealants, treatment of dental emergencies, and interceptive pediatric orthodontics.
